Klopp’s desperate petition to Liverpool before the second leg match against Real Madrid

Coach Juergen Klopp said that Liverpool should start working on plans to sign new players in the summer transfer period, regardless of its position in the Champions League next season, referring to the purchasing power of other clubs in the English Premier League.

Liverpool lost 5-2 to Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 and occupies eighth place in the league, seven points behind fourth place, which guarantees qualification to the Champions League, even if it has two postponed matches.

And before the return match, which is scheduled to take place in the middle of next March, Jurgen Klopp sent a request to Liverpool, which the Mundo Deportivo newspaper described as “desperate.”

Klopp told reporters: “I am sorry I cannot guarantee the Champions League at the moment, but we are fighting for it and it is not over yet. But it is complicated and we have to start working before we know where we will end up in terms of European position and competition. These things are clear.”

Liverpool has won the Champions League six times, and last won the title in 2018-19. Klopp added, “I think we played five consecutive years in the Champions League, which brings in a lot of money, and we went to the final three times in that time, which is also huge from an economic point of view.”

And he continued, “We have built a grandstand, we have built a training ground, and the club is in a very good place, but it is clear that some clubs around us are getting faster and you cannot ignore that. We cannot ignore this kind of thing.”

Liverpool’s American owner, John Henry, said there are no plans to sell the club but he is open to investment, including scouting Manchester United for sale, while Chelsea and Newcastle United are already in wealthy hands.
